D-Link launches nextgen smart switches

Dubai, November 28, 2010

D-Link, a global leader in connectivity for enterprise business networking, has introduced its latest series of Gigabit and Fast Ethernet Web Smart III Switches.

The Web Smart Switches include a comprehensive set of management features paired with a minimally complex user interface for straightforward configuration.

Bridging the gap between unmanaged and managed switches, Web Smart Switches provide novice and expert administrators alike with a wide array of options for keeping their network running securely and efficiently. The included web management interface and SmartConsole utility provide an intuitive system for administrators to manage a mid-sized network that might otherwise present a challenge.

Web Smart Switches strengthen security through the use of access control lists (ACL), ensuring that sensitive network resources are restricted only to authorised users.

Web Smart Switches detect and block intruders that attempt to sniff data or send fake ARP packets that could disrupt network traffic. This defense mechanism allows the switch to remain operable even while under attack. These switches are also robust enough to screen rogue DHCP server packets to prevent unauthorised IP assignments.

D-Link Web Smart Switches guarantee that a network remains fast and efficient by managing bottlenecks and controlling network bandwidth. A Web Smart Switch can be deployed as a primary core for optimal performance, giving administrators control over security, bandwidth, and topology.

Alternatively, these switches can be deployed at the network edge to manage and eliminate bandwidth constraints while enhancing security. Regardless of the installation scenario, reliability is ensured through Loopback Detection (LBD) and cable diagnostics.

Web Smart Switches streamline bandwidth using Quality of Service (QoS) optimisations to shape and manage traffic. Asymmetric VLAN support allows these switches to direct unlike or unequal bandwidth across different VLANs. Through this segmentation, client-server traffic flows can be optimised, and shared resources effectively controlled. The Auto Voice VLAN function automatically identifies voice traffic and maintains optimal audio quality for VOIP calls.

All Web Smart Switches feature a fanless or smart fan design which reduces power consumption while allowing the switch to operate almost silently. Single LEDs per port provide status at a glance and help to save electricity.

'The D-Link Web Smart Switch series provides many of the features found in managed switches at a much lower total cost of ownership' said Harrison Albert, regional director at D-Link Middle East and Africa.

The latest firmware supports several languages including English (Default), Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, French, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, and German.-TradeArabia News Service
