Etisalat Nigeria subscriber base hits 5m
Abu Dhabi, September 25, 2010
UAE's top telecom services provider Etisalat has announced that five million active subscribers are now talking on its Nigerian operation network.
The company has achieved the five million subscriber base in less than two years of commercial operations in Nigeria’s dynamic and highly competitive telecommunications market, said a top official.
"We are very proud of Etisalat Nigeria, as it has made a significant achievement netting 5 million subscribers in less than two years of commercial operations in a highly competitive telecom market like Nigeria,” said Ahmed bin Ali, Etisalat Group senior vice president.
"This impressive increase attained in subscriber base attests to the yearning of Nigerians for a superior GSM service and demonstrates that customers are delighted with Etisalat’s world-class product offering and service delivery which is in line with the telecoms company’s practice in major markets Etisalat operates in," he noted.
According to him, Etisalat has a successful history of attracting record number of subscribers in new markets.
"In Saudi, Mobily launched service in 32 cities (license requirement only seven), bringing coverage to 79.2 per cent of the population and attracting first million subscribers in less than 90 days, while Etisalat Misr, which launched its operations in May 2007, acquired its one million subscribers in the first 50 days of operation,” he added.
Etisalat Nigeria, said bin Ali, has recorded several achievements including being adjudged the best telecoms service provider by the Nigerian Communications Commission.
The company currently has coverage in all the 36 states of the federation as well as the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
