SanDisk, Salam ink distributor deal for Qatar

Dubai, June 3, 2010

SanDisk Corporation, the world’s largest supplier of flash storage cards, and Salam Studios and Stores, a major retailer in the region, have signed a distributorship agreement covering Qatar.

“Qatar and Lebanon are growth markets for us and our partners have helped us achieve our targets,” said Tareq Husseini, SanDisk’s Middle East and Africa sales director.

“We are very excited to sign on Salam Studios as our official distributor in Qatar and at the same time, applaud the efforts of Digital Technologies, our partner in Lebanon,” he added.

The agreement is pursuant to SanDisk plans for more aggressive expansion of its new products as well as other flash memory cards, a statement said.

Mobile penetration in Qatar currently exceeds 100 percent and is forecasted to exceed 210 per cent by 2014, said a research report.

Mobile handset sales in Qatar are expected to total Dh297 million ($80.8 million) by 2014.

Lebanon is also on an impressive growth path with its mobile subscriber base recorded to have touched the 40,000 mark in 2009 and just Blackberry users would reach the 30,000 mark by the end of 2011, the report said. – TradeArabia News Service
