Dubai, September 29, 2009

UAE’s integrated telecom operator du is providing its Wi-Fi service to the new Dubai Metro line, as part of an agreement with RTA. The wireless broadband connection from du will be available both on metro trains and stations.

The partnership with the RTA marks a noteworthy milestone for du, empowering the transport industry for the first time in the UAE with smart in-rail wireless communications.

du’s next generation network offers on-the-move seamless wireless internet connectivity for passengers on the trains and in the stations for the first time in the UAE. The train compartments will be connected to the operator’s network using a state-of-the-art WiMAX and 3rd generation network for backhauling.

The service is available to any visitor and resident using Dubai Metro with a Wi-Fi enabled device such as laptop, smart phone or PDA.

“The Dubai Metro’s introduction of the region’s first in-rail WiFi enabled network, will place it among an elite group of metro operators worldwide, providing public access Wi-Fi connections,” said Farid Faraidooni, EVP commercial, du.

In addition to this, du has strengthened its 2G and 3G mobile coverage at all Dubai Metro stations and along the entire Red Line for seamless connectivity and a superior communication experience for all commuters.-TradeArabia News Service
