Huawei deploys trial fibre network for Qtel

Dubai, August 12, 2009

Huawei, a leader in providing next generation telecom network solutions, has deployed its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network on a trial basis, for Qtel in Qatar.

Huawei has been working with Qtel in the area of optical networks since 2003 and has supported Qtel to sustain the peak traffic during 15th Doha Asian Games in 2006.

The tested GPON FTTH network by Qtel would provide ultra high speed connectivity to houses in Mesaieed and Westbay Lagoon through the use of optical line terminal (OLT) and optical network terminals (ONT). These terminals can accommodate various application scenarios such as commercial buildings, residential apartments and villas.

With Huawei's cutting edge GPON FTTH solution, Qtel can fully meet the current and future demands for ultra-high bandwidth access while delivering a better service experience for its customers. It will increase Qtel's sustainable competitive advantage for its business growth by introducing more customised solutions and applications.

'We are committed to leveraging our innovative optical access solutions and extensive global application experiences to provide highly responsive services to Qtel,' said Alan Wang, general manager of Huawei Qatar.

Based on a terabit access platform, Huawei's FTTH system provides unified access to data, voice and video services. Underpinned by the large-capacity platform with an ultra-high optical branching ratio, it provides robust broadband capabilities, flattens the network structure, and protects investment by supporting smooth evolution to 10-Gbps PON.-TradeArabia News Service
