Umniah in key GAM partnership

Amman, May 25, 2008

Umniah, the leading telecommunications provider and pioneer in pro-bono activities, recently joined forces in strategic partnership with the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM).

The alliance led the Jordanian telecommunication provider’s contribution to the launch of a children’s playground at the Um Omar Park in Sweileh, an initiative it celebrated on Jordan’s Independence day.

The newly-commenced play area is one of many that Umniah is striving to instigate in public parks owned by the Municipality.

The Company spearheaded this initiative based on its commitment to providing kids in each neighborhood with a safe playing environment.

Placing great emphasis on equipping the children playing areas according to international standards of security and excellence, Umniah is ensuring that it is doing its part for granting the offspring of Jordan their rights to healthy, hearty and emotionally enriching childhoods.

The telecommunications provider had initiated its partnership with GAM last February with the launch of the first Children’s playground in the Abu Baker Al-Siddiq Public Park located in Khreibet Al-Souk South Amman.

The playground was officially inaugurated under the patronage of Mayor of Amman, Omar Maani, an event that marked the starting point for Umniah’s long-term involvement in child development.

Commenting on the company’s role in this initiative, CEO of Umniah, Joseph Hanania said, “We were eager to collaborate with GAM, as we strive to assume proactive roles in Jordan’s development initiatives."

"We believe that the children of today are the building blocks for a brighter tomorrow. It is with conviction that we lend a helping hand to this particular project.”

Hanania further pointed out that Umniah had always been active in several development sectors. Making its mark on the Jordanian sports arena, the company had recently signed an agreement with the Jordan Speed Center to promote motor sports in Jordan.

It had also signed an agreement with Al Riyadi Basketball Club to guarantee further advancement for Jordan’s youth basketball sector.

“We are always keen on contributing to the Kingdom’s social progress, as we at Umniah are not only providers of telecommunication solutions but we are also an integral part of the society”, he added.

"At the Greater Amman Municipality we are confident that this alliance will be a fruitful one, as together we will work proactively and with conviction to realize our goals for rehabilitating public spaces in Amman and for making this city more child friendly."

"On this occasion, we come together with the private sector in strategic alliance to ensure elevated quality of life for our citizens in Amman. We view Umniah as a pioneering institution that contributes to a plethora of developmental initiatives”

Hanania affirmed that this project would be followed up by many more to come, as Umniah’s partnership with the Greater Amman Municipality is fated to be long term.-TradeArabia News Service
