Umniah expands Umax network

Jordan, April 9, 2008

Umniah has expanded the reach of its Umax network to include the cities of Irbid , Zarqa,  Aqaba and the capital Amman.

More specifically, Umniah’s Umax coverage will include Irbid city centre area and the Yarmouk University Street in addition to Queen Nour Circle Area and Edoun, said an official spokesman.

In Zarqa this service will now be available in the Ma’soum district, the new Zarqa area, Zarqa City Centre, the Rusaifeh area and the Water Tank Hospital area as well. This expansion will add to the coverage currently available in 30 per cent of the capital city districts and in the Aqaba city centre, with plans to cover all Jordanian governorates in the near future.

By expanding its network capacities, Umniah is further solidifying its market position as the pioneering provider of Umax in Jordan. By embarking on this expansion, Umniah is bringing Jordan one-step closer to having Internet connectivity accessible and affordable to everyone.

“We are committed to increasing Internet mobility in Jordan, and now with the expansion of our Umax reach we are granting subscribers the opportunity to stay connected to the internet whether they were in Amman, Zarqa, Irbid or Aqaba. This expansion is only one of a series to follow in the near future, as we at Umniah always look for new and easy ways for our subscribers to remain connected to the world of the Internet,” said Umniah’s CEO Joseph Hanania.

It is important to note that the Umax service is designed to effectively replace the traditional cables or DSL. Umax works with the wireless broadband technology. It transmits data from one computer to another, using encoded radio waves and then to personal computers over long distances that could reach 15-kms with a speed that reaches two megabit/second.

This service allows users to make VoIP calls while also receiving and sending large multimedia files at exponential rates and is expected to significantly increase Internet penetration rates in the long run.

The Umax service is currently available in all Umniah selling points as well as Umax authorised partner – Batelco Jordan and UMAX authorized dealers – Swiftel, Telemax, Al-Kahlout and Al-Mawared. – TradeArabia News Service
