Bahrain to sit on IT award grand jury
Manama, October 27, 2007
Bahrain has been chosen for the third consecutive time to sit on the grand jury for the World Summit Award for e-products, such as e-government, e-learning and others.
Bahraini information technology and e-content expert, Waheed Al Balushi, who is e-services manager for the Labour Market Regulatory Authority, is taking part in the grand jury sessions, said a report in our sister publication Gulf Daily News.
The latest meeting was held on the island of Brijuni, Croatia, under the patronage of President Stjepan Mesic.
The award, which is in its third session, has been held every two years since 2003, under the auspices of the UN and its representatives.
The award recognises and honours the best e-products on an international level, in the following categories: learning, government, culture, health, inclusion, business, entertainment and science.
The grand jury comprises 36 experts, technicians, scholars, diplomats and businessmen, chosen from more than 1000 experts.
The jury considers submissions from among 160 countries and selects the five best in each field.
Award winners are invited to an official ceremony, which takes place in the presence of several world leaders.
This year's ceremony takes place in Venice, Italy, in November.- TradeArabia News Service
