Bahrain-origin exports soar 58pc to hit $605m

The value of Bahrain-origin exports increased by 58 per cent as it reached BD229 million ($605 million) during July versus BD145 million for the same month of 2017, the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) said in its latest foreign trade report.

The top ten countries account for 90 per cent of the exported national origin value and 10 per cent for other countries.

Saudi Arabia was ranked as the top country importing from Bahrain with BD41 million worth products, Oman was the second with BD39 million and Egypt came third with BD25 million.

As for national export products, agglomerated iron ores and concentrates emerged as the top products exported in July 2018 with BD39 million in value, Aluminium wire was positioned second with a value of BD35 million and unwrought aluminium stood third place for exported products with BD21 million.

In the re-exports category, the value increased by 9 per cent as it reached BD48 million during July 2018 versus BD44 million for the same month of the previous year. The top ten countries accounted for 91 per cent of the re-exported value. Saudi Arabia was ranked as the top destination for re-export from Bahrain with BD18 million, China ranked as the second with BD8 million and the UAE as the third with BD6 million.

Four-wheel drive cars emerged as the top product re-exported from Bahrain with BD8 million in value, Cigarettes containing tobacco came as the second product with BD3 million and mountings parts for motor vehicles came as the third with BD1.3 million value.

Imports
The value of imports increased by 12 per cent as it reached BD486 million during July 2018 versus BD433 million for the same month of the previous year. The top ten countries accounted for 69 per cent of the imports value.

According to the report, China was ranked as the leading country that exports to Bahrain with BD69 million worth of products, the UAE ranked second with BD50 million, whereas Australia came third with BD50 million.

Aluminium Oxide emerged as the top product imported to Bahrain with BD44 million, while four-wheel drive cars came second with BD19 million. Non-agglomerated iron ores and concentrates were the third products with BD16 million during July 2018.

The trade balance, the difference between exports and imports, recorded a deficit of BD209 million during July 2018 versus BD244 million for the same month of the previous year, a decrease of 14 per cent. – TradeArabia News Service
