Sohar Port and Freezone, Opal to promote road safety

MUSCAT, May 28, 2018

Oman’s Sohar Port and Freezone and Oman Society for Petroleum Services (Opal) are collaborating to promote road safety awareness and safe driving techniques, said a report.

Under the plan, Opal Road Safety Standards will be adopted in the port and freezone area, said the Times of Oman report.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on May 20 at the head office of Sohar Port and Freezone, by Sohar Port CEO Mark Geilenkirchen and Sohar Freezone CEO and DCEO Sohar Port Jamal Aziz with Musallam Al Mandhari, CEO of Opal, added the report.

Suwaid Al Shamaisi, executive manager corporate affairs at Sohar Port and Freezone, said that the company is committed to maintaining a healthy, safe, and secure environment for industries, surrounding community, and nature itself.

He added that Sohar Port continues to upgrade its rules and regulations to match the latest global standards.

Al Shamaisi noted that the company’s traffic safety protocols are strict and will be further enhanced through this agreement.

He further pointed out that together with the support of Opal, the application of the Road Safety Standard will greatly contribute to reducing traffic incidents, to ensure the well-being of all its staff, stakeholders and the society at large.
