Consultant named for Oman's $95m meat project

MUSCAT, December 17, 2017

Oman’s Al Bashayer Meat Company has signed a master consultant agreement for the integrated Red Meat Project in the Wilayat of Thamrait in the Governorate of Dhofar with Haller and Al Salmi for architectural and engineering consultancy, said a report.

The contract involves the design and supervision of the construction of the project, which has an investment of RO37 million ($95.94 million), added the Oman Daily Observer report.

The company’s strategy is to build an integrated red meat project based on the import of live animals from different sources to be fattened within a specified period and then sold directly to the consumer or slaughtered in a slaughterhouse with international standards, meat to be frozen, distributed and sold in local markets and markets of neighbouring countries.

A meat processing plant and its derivatives will be established to make the most of the animals to ensure the full sustainability of the project, contribute to the food security system and raise the self-sufficiency ratio in the sultanate.

Dr Rashid al Masroori, chairman of the board of directors of Oman Food Investment Holding Company, said that Al Bashayer Meat is one of the company’s projects which will enhance the food security and contribute to increasing the self-sufficiency ratio of red meat to more than 80 per cent in the coming years.
