BAS to implement new cargo handling system

MANAMA, September 18, 2017

Bahrain Airport Services (BAS), the sole operator of ground services at the kingdom's international airport, is set to implement its in-house developed cargo handling system to cover all operational aspects.

The new "Cargo Dream System" which boasts the latest international technology, will help facilitate air cargo movement at the Bahrain International Airport and consequently boost productivity through automating a lot of its functions thus leading to faster delivery and reduce expenses.

BAS, which has a long track record of 40 years, said its cargo division provides full range of services to freighter aircraft operators as well as scheduled and chartered carriers.

The company deals with all shipments - exports from Bahrain (over 15 tonne) annually, and all its imports, including business shipments into the kingdom and shipments of airlines and military aircraft to the Ministry of Defence and the US Navy and the British Royal Navy, it stated.

This takes its total shipments to more than 91 tonne annually, not to mention the polarisation of transit shipments more than (19 tonne) annually, it added.

The services provided by BAS and the speed of delivery, play a major role in supporting businesses locally and internationally, thus strengthening the national economy in Bahrain, remarked Khalid Abdul Razzaq, the manager for cargo at BAS.

"The new Cargo Dream System is partially implemented at the BAS cargo terminal and we are looking to fully implement our in house developed program to cover all operational aspects," he noted.

"We aim to have a fully developed handling system that will give us the opportunity to market our system to other stations in near future," he added

According to Razzaq, BAS provides a variety of ground services to customers at Bahrain International Airport besides handling more than 125 tonne annually.

"BAS Cargo Terminal is the key ingredient in the kingdom's logistics sector having all stakeholders connected through a comprehensive services provided to the integrators which allow them to conduct their business in a very professional atmosphere in addition to fulfilling their requirements in a very competitive time frame which is the most valued aspect of any business," he stated.

Razzaq pointed out that BAS had invested heavily in technology, in order to improve the work performance. "We have deployed the barcode scanners in which the whole operation at the terminal is done by the use of those barcode scanners which consequently had a very positive impact on data accuracy due to limited human interference in the data capture," he explained.

"Furthermore a monitor has been deployed at the import section of the terminal which enables customers to track their shipments from the time they request for the delivery," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
