Emirates Float Glass wins award for safety standards

DUBAI, May 14, 2017

Emirates Float Glass (EFG), a subsidiary of Dubai Investments, has won an award from the Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) in recognition of its environmental, health and safety standards in the industrial sector.

A hitech integrated float glass facility in the emirates, EFG said it is committed to prevent and minimise any adverse occupational health, safety and environmental impacts and risks arising from activities, products or services.

The company stressed that it was committed to a unique carbon management programme since 2012 which covers all aspects of its manufacturing unit – be it the use of chemicals, disposal of industrial waste and air pollution levels, thus maintaining its balanced efforts to achieve sustainable development and upholding responsibilities towards all stakeholders.

EFG general manager Ghassan Mashal received the award from Ahmed Helal S Al Blooshi, director general of IDB, at a recent special function.

After the awards ceremony, Mashal said: "EFG is privileged to receive the special award from IDB, which is a testimony of the company’s contribution and commitment to sustainable development."

"Since its inception, EFG has adopted green initiatives in the production processes and ensuring safe and healthy working environment to all employees," he stated.

Later Al Blooshi and other senior IDB officials toured the EFG facility and appreciated the safety,
environmental and healthy work practices at the plant, said a statement from the company.

The macro approach of EFG in occupational health and safety has contributed significantly to the company’s performance and the loss time injury incident rate has been completely eliminated since the fourth quarter of 2012.

The EFG facility, equipped with hitech machines from Europe, US and Japan, achieves 100 per cent capacity utilisation, the highest benchmark for efficiency levels worldwide.

The hi-tech manufacturing unit currently holds a production capacity of 600 tonnes of clear molten glass per day and over 190,000 tonnes of glass products per year, it added.– TradeArabia News Service
