DMCA, Seacor Marine discuss maritime issues

DUBAI, April 30, 2017

Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), the government authority of the maritime sector in Dubai, recently visited the headquarters of Seacor Marine, a major operator of offshore marine support vessels.

Seacor Marine is one of the world's leading owners and operators offshore vessels, with a fleet of more than 172 vessels. The company is headquartered in Dubai with operations covering the Middle East, Africa, the Balkans and the Far East.

Led by Amer Ali, executive director of DMCA, and Nawfal Al Jourani, chief officer of the Dubai Maritime Cluster Office, the DMCA’s delegation discussed best solutions and efficient measures to further capitalise on promising opportunities and address current and emerging challenges facing Dubai’s maritime community, said a statement from the authority.

The visit is in line with the DMCA’s commitment to achieve the happiness and satisfaction of customers and maritime stakeholders, as well as strengthen Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) to enhance the maritime sector's competitiveness and make Dubai one of the world's leading maritime capitals, it said.

Ali emphasised the importance of further reinforcing fruitful relations with partners from the private sector to further develop a competitive and sustainable maritime sector, in accordance with the ambitious objectives of the Dubai Maritime Sector Strategy.

He said that the meeting with Seacor Marine’s officials offered an ideal platform for exploring the sharing of knowledge and expertise according to their common aspirations.

Ali added: “We are fully committed to building strong ties with private companies operating in the maritime sector of Dubai, as we believe that constructive dialogue is a major tool for developing effective strategies for achieving the happiness of our partners and customers alike.”

“This is in line with the directives of our wise leadership to spread happiness and positivity as they comprise an ideal lifestyle, a government commitment, and a spirit uniting the UAE community. We look forward to expanding our productive relations with the private sector which plays a fundamental role in ensuring the local maritime sector’s global competitiveness and attractiveness,” he concluded.

During the visit, both parties discussed pressing issues affecting the maritime community and exchanged their forward-looking visions in support of the DMCA’s efforts to enhance the efficiency and competitiveness of Dubai's maritime sector, said a statement.

The DMCA representatives also took the opportunity to get Seacor’s feedback on its maritime and logistics services and existing regulations in a bid to gain a deeper understanding of the private maritime companies’ modern-day requirements and determine the best practices to raise the bar on the maritime industry.

These are in line with the DMCA’s objective of building a safe marine environment that is capable of keeping pace with rapid changes and emerging trends and attracting regional and international investors, it stated. – TradeArabia News Service
