Aluminium Bahrain (Alba), a leading international aluminium smelter, was recently recognised as the Gold Winner of the Green World Award 2016 for environmental best practice.

The win endorses the company’s long-standing commitment towards protecting the environment not only at the local level but also at the regional and international levels, said a statement from the company.

Alba won the ‘Gold’ in the prestigious International Green Apple Awards 2015 for its project ‘Aluminium Smelter to Green Oasis’, which was then submitted for the Green World Award for 2016, it said.

Alba’s chief executive officer Tim Murray, said: “As one of the leading organisations in Bahrain, our company has been a keen investor in environmental initiatives that help preserve and protect Bahrain's green environment.”

“Scooping the recognition is a testament to the continuous efforts of our workforce towards maintaining an environment-friendly workplace,” he said.

“We will continue to invest in green initiatives to maintain its position as one of the largest and most efficient smelters in the world,” he added.
