CAIRO, July 5, 2016
Intertek, a leading quality solutions provider to industries worldwide, has been signed up as quality partner by Malaysia’s WorldFish Organisation for its Egypt operations, mainly in upgradation of 100 fish farms in the country.
Intertek, which is also an internationally-recognised certification body for food safety programmes, offers certification specifically related to farming methodology, including organic certification, and has become an integral part of global initiatives to certify, train and support the whole value chain and assure its sustainability.
As per the deal, Intertek will work with WorldFish Organisation to improve performance, gain efficiencies in manufacturing and logistics, overcome market constraints and reduce risks, said a statement.
WorldFish, an international non-profit research organisation, harnesses the potential of fisheries and aquaculture to reduce poverty and hunger. It is a member of Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), a global agriculture research partnership for a food secure future.
The project is aimed at upgrading production of fish farms, mainly from the two regions of Kafr El Sheikh and Fayoum, which generate around 10,000 tonnes per annum.
On the partnership, Sherif Fakhry, global product manager, Intertek, said: "It will include the complete development of the Egyptian aquaculture Business Management Process (BMP) standards for the entire supply chain.”
“Our team of expert auditors will establish and implement the BMP certification system that focuses on improving performance by managing and optimising the operations,” he added.-TradeArabia News Service
