Sohar port participates in China breakbulk event

MUSCAT, March 16, 2016

Oman’s Sohar Port and Freezone (Sohar) is participating in the ongoing Breakbulk China 2016, Asia’s largest conference and exhibition addressing the needs of breakbulk and project cargo logistics, being held in Shanghai, China, said a report.

The event provides Sohar with the opportunity to connect with shippers, international freight forwarders, logistics and transportation decision makers in Asia, along with over 160 other exhibitors, added the Oman Daily News report.

Thousands of specialists are attending the four-day event, which will conclude tomorrow (March 17), taking place at the World Expo Exhibition and Convention Centre.

Sohar Port’s executive commercial manager Marc Evertse said that last year the company saw a sharp increase in breakbulk cargo shipments to over 1.9 million tonnes, increasing by 46 per cent from 2014 to 2015.

He noted that the port is also handling over 200,000 vehicles a year, making Sohar a significant regional automotive hub for the Middle East.

Breakbulk event continues to grow in the region thanks to the huge investments in infrastructure projects throughout the Middle East, offering significant opportunities on all sides of the business, added the report.
