DMCA to showcase safety standards at DIBS

DUBAI, February 29, 2016

Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) will highlight ‘maritime innovation’ and ‘sustainability’ by increasing public awareness about maritime safety standards at the Dubai International Boat Show (DIBS), to be held tomorrow (March 1) in Dubai, UAE.

DIBS, the largest and most established marine event of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region, will run till March 5, at the Dubai International Marine Club.

DMCA will emphasise on the safe environmental and operational practices in the public and private marine facilities to ensure a sustainable maritime environment in Dubai.

As part of its participation in the fastest growing marine leisure event in the world, the authority will highlight the maritime creativity and innovation process in Dubai, which is helping consolidate the emirate’s leading position as a world-class maritime hub.

DMCA will present its wide portfolio of high level maritime services, most notably the marine licensing services. The authority’s pavilion will provide services for marine crafts licensing and applying for mandatory marine driving license.

It will focus on reviewing the latest innovations and value-added initiatives that aim to elevate the competitive advantages of the local maritime sector, and will also help promoting the sector to the highest international levels, which fall in line with the Dubai Maritime Sector Strategy that focuses on organising, developing and promoting all fields and aspects of the maritime sector.

DMCA’s participation at DIBS will feature Maritime Safety Policy and other essential information such as speed limits and beach break areas along the emirate’s coastline. The authority will also be distributing the ‘Dubai Powerboat Handbook’ in both English and Arabic. It is the only version in the world to be offered in the Arabic language that covers the use of boats with engines.

Amer Ali, executive director, DMCA, said: “Our participation in this edition of DIBS is the right opportunity to throw the spotlight on a wide range of smart services and applications that have been designed using the latest technological innovations in the maritime industry and the highest standards of quality, efficiency and comprehensiveness.”

“These apps, including ‘Smart Customer,’ ‘Smart Inspector,’ ‘Smart Exam,’ and ‘Smart Marine Traffic’ along with other advanced applications are expected to contribute in upgrading the customer experience,” he said.

“DIBS holds a strategic importance for us as it provides us with an integrated platform for direct communication as well as exchange of experiences and best practices with senior leaders of the maritime sector from across the region and the world and discuss the latest developments and emerging trends in the field,” he added. – TradeArabia News Service
