Drydocks World, a leading provider of maritime and offshore services to the shipping, oil, gas and energy sectors, has been recognised for an award at the Shell Contractor Workshop Awards.

The award ceremony was held on October 15, at the Radisson Blu Edwardian in Heathrow, UK.

Drydocks World won the award for the ‘Best HSE Initiative in 2014-2015’, said a statement from the company.

The award was presented to Drydocks World’s president and chief operating officer (COO), Dr C S Kim, it added.

Drydocks World received the award for the introduction of chariot robotic equipment for hydro-blasting on the vessels’ hulls which helps in reducing health, safety and environmental (HSE) risk and offers consistent quality and increased efficiency, it said.

As part of the introduction of various tests, including emission tests and waste generation tests were carried out on a periodic basis, to assess the performance of the chariot robotic machines and their impact on health, safety and environmental aspects, added the statement.

The technology is set to replace the existing grit blasting process, it said.

Alongside this initiative the shipyard has also implemented large covered painting chambers with four seasons’ temperature controlled de-humidification and vacuum cleaning facilities, it stated.
