Masharie JV to set up LED assembly unit in Dubai

DUBAI, October 4, 2015

Lite-Tech Industries, a subsidiary of Dubai Investments, is set to start a dedicated assembly unit in the UAE for complete LED (light-emitting diode) fixtures as part of its regional expansion strategy.

A joint venture between Masharie, the private equity arm of Dubai Investments and world renowned Philips Lighting BV, the Dubai-based group is now planning its foray into Africa.

The company has already executed two hospital projects in Saudi Arabia and a mall extension work in Dubai, said the company in a statement.

The new assembly unit at Lite-Tech’s manufacturing facility in Dubai will offer end-to-end assembly of LED components in various printed circuit boards and fixtures for both indoor and outdoor applications, which not only offer high brightness and power efficiency but also lower carbon emissions than traditional lighting technologies.

With this move, the Lite-Tech Industries is poised to become the number one LED supplier in the emirates, particularly in the indoor lighting segment, it stated.

The new facility will reinforce its leadership in the energy-efficient LED-based lighting technology and its commitment to sustainability, the statement added.

The company, currently manufacturing 300,000 conventional and LED fixtures, plans to scale up its capacity to nearly 500,000 fixtures in three years’ time with the new unit. LED will take a major chunk of the production output, said a top official.

"Lite-Tech is entering a new era in cutting-edge LED technologies with the proposed assembly line. It is sourcing custom pick-and-place moulds for the assembly unit to meet various client requirements and provide quality products to end users with extended warranty," stated Khalid Nashashibi, the general manager.

"This move is a significant step in line with Lite-Tech’s commitment to environment and the UAE government’s initiatives towards a sustainable future," he stated.

According to him, the company also plans to expand its geographical footprint to Africa to tap into the burgeoning demand for lighting solutions amidst rampant construction projects in the continent.

This is part of an outreach by the company to tap into new revenue streams which also include partnerships with developers & contractors and enhancing trading activities, he added.

On its key projects, Lite-Tech said it has completed the supply of lighting solutions worth Dh7 million ($1.9 million) to two hospitals for Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia besides the Dh5 million ($1.36 million) installation work at Dragon Mart in Dubai in the first six months of 2015.

The project execution came in the wake of increasing demand for LEDs lighting solutions in the region. The LED market is growing by approximately 10 per cent year-on-year and in the current year, the growth has spurted, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
