Samsung Engineering achieves major safety milestone
SEOUL, September 23, 2015
Samsung Engineering Company, has revealed today that it has achieved a major safety milestone at the Shaybah Gas and Oil Project, which the firm is carrying out for Saudi Aramco.
Samsung achieved a new record of 120 million man-hours without lost time incident at the project in the Shaybah region, Saudi Arabia, said the statement.
This major figure, which equals to 10,000 people working 10 hours a day for over three years without a single accident, was made possible with safety as the highest priority and the tremendous efforts of the Samsung engineering staff, it said.
The Shaybah project is located in heart of Saudi Arabia with a temperature of 50 deg C surrounded by heat waves and sand desert, 1,000 km from Jubail.
Even with such a challenging environment, 120 million man hours without lost time incident were achieved through systematic education, founded safety management based on campaigns and safety systems, the company said.
The “Visual Safety Training Centre” was implemented, where field staff experience several simulated emergency situations and therefore could learn how to avoid and respond to them in case of an actual situation.
Additionally, emergency evacuation drills were executed six times per month, adding up to 300 times in total. More than 40,000 potential safety issues were identified and eliminated through daily safety checks and the safety mind-set of the Samsung staff. These efforts were rewarded by the client Aramco with a top grade for the PSI Project Safety Index for four consecutive years.
Sangwon Lee, Samsung Engineering’s Shaybah project director, said: “This new record of 120 million accident free man hours was possible, due to the efforts of all project stakeholders.”
“I will do everything in my power to bring this project accident-free to completion,” he added. – TradeArabia News Service
