IRAN, August 18, 2015
Iran exported $60 million worth hand-woven carpets from March 21 to July 22, said a head of the Iranian National Carpet Centre.
Iranian hand-woven carpets were exported to 80 countries during the said period, Hamid Kargar was quoted as saying in an Iran Daily report, which cited Press TV.
He said that in the past three years, Iran faced major problems in exporting hand-woven carpets, but showed improvement from March 21, 2014, onwards with carpet exports witnessing a slow but gradual increase.
Kagar said that hand-woven carpets worth around $330 million, weighing 5,100 tonnes, were exported in the year to mid-March 2015, showing an increase of about 2.7 per cent compared to the figure for the year earlier.
He added that Iran will hold an exhibition of hand-woven carpets from August 23 to 29, noting that 71 foreign merchants, including 54 foreign nationals and 17 Iranian businesspeople living abroad, will take part in this year's exhibition, which will be held in an area of 30,000 sq m.
Additionally, Kagar said that businesspeople from countries such as Japan, Azerbaijan Republic, Pakistan, UAE, India, Denmark, Russia and US will take part in Iran's 24th Hand-woven Carpet Exhibition.
