Ex-Alba workers demand old jobs back
MANAMA, March 10, 2015
Nine men protested outside the General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions (GFBTU) headquarters, in Adliya, Bahrain yesterday (March 9), claiming to be former Alba employees demanding their old jobs back.
Alba Trade Union spokesman Mohammed Muased said the protest was over alleged delays in reinstating them, reported the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.
The men claimed to have been unfairly sacked in 2011, but not re-employed despite a government initiative to reinstate people who lost their jobs as a result of unrest.
"As per the tripartite agreement, which was agreed upon in February 2014 (by the Labour Ministry, Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the GFBTU) all employees whose names were listed were supposed to be reinstated," Muased told the GDN.
"This was also the order from His Majesty King Hamad after the Bassiouni report.
Implementation
"These nine men's names feature in that list, but this decision is yet to be implemented."
All reinstatement cases are handled by Labour Ministry labour affairs assistant under-secretary Dr Mohammed Al Ansari, who could not be reached for a comment.
However, Labour Ministry Under-Secretary Sabah Al Dossary said he was aware of only three employees yet to be reinstated by Alba.
