Arab import of Brazilian beef tops $907m
DUBAI, January 20, 2015
Brazilian beef exports to Arab countries soared by 8.7 per cent last year, with the region consuming $907 million worth of beef, according to latest figures.
The significant increase, based on the figures released by the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC), demonstrated continuous strong trade ties between the Arab states and Brazil, said a statement.
Egypt recorded the highest volume of beef export last year followed by Algeria, Lebanon, United Arab Emirates and Libya.
During the period, $526.07 million worth of Brazilian beef were shipped to Egypt, representing a 15.67 per cent increase over 2013’s $454.78 million.
Meanwhile, Algeria experienced 13 per cent growth to reach $93.31 million, Lebanon growth hit a high 11.83 per cent, and UAE’s beef trade rose to $76.18 million.
Dr Michel Alaby, secretary general and chief executive officer of Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, said: “The beef trade relations between the Arab countries and Brazil have continued to flourish over the years. Like in the previous quarters, Brazil’s strict adherence to the halal process, attention to high quality and competitive pricing are key drivers that are further reinforcing their ties.
“We expect to witness a stronger trade partnership between the South American country and Arab region next year as we, at ABCC, remain steadfast in our commitment to facilitate and introduce new trading opportunities to sustain the existing significant market growth.”
The country has been predicted to exceed its 2014 record this year, with exports projected to reach $8 billion or 1.7 million tonnes, he added. - TradeArabia News Service
