Abu Dhabi marks one year of Khalifa Port's success

Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC), the master developer of ports and industrial zones, is celebrating the one year anniversary of the inauguration of its state-of-the art Khalifa Port.
It was exactly one year ago, on 12 December, at 12 pm, when Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, officially inaugurated the flagship port in a once-in-lifetime official ceremony.
Hundreds of VIPs, ADPC employees, partners, stakeholders and representatives from other government entities and contractors all came together to celebrate the special occasion.
Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, the acting CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports Company, said: “Today, Thursday 12 December 2013, Abu Dhabi Ports Company celebrates the first anniversary of the inauguration of Khalifa Port, by our President. Today, we remember a day which fills our hearts with pride and joy, a day which heralded a landmark for the emirate of Abu Dhabi and for our future."
"One year on, Khalifa Port is breaking records - importing and exporting more containers than has ever been handled in the emirate, reaching world class levels of productivity and attracting shipping lines and customers from around the world," he stated.
“The megaproject which is Khalifa Port and Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi shows that our wise leadership’s vision for a prosperous and exciting future is becoming reality. In the years ahead we will work to build on this success turning the vision into reality.”
The key achievements of the Kahlifa port in the last twelve months include:
•It has six super post panamax quay cranes, 32 automated stacking cranes, and 20 straddle carriers. A further three super post panamax cranes and 12 more stacking cranes will be installed in January 2014
•The IT infrastructure behind Khalifa Port has now won eight regional and international industry award – recognizing its design, capabilities and innovation
•Khalifa Port is currently serving 17 shipping lines and is offering direct services with direct links to more than 40 international destinations
•Khalifa Port has achieved a record of 1,026,843 operational man hours, without any LTI’s (lost time injury’s)
•In September, ADPC signed a ten year agreement with Emirates Aluminium (EMAL), to handle the export logistics of finished aluminium products from EMAL’s production site through Khalifa Port.
•In July, Khalifa Port achieved its highest crane production, with 43.3 crane moves per hour, while loading and unloading the CSL Ride. In August, Khalifa Port achieved a work production rate of 142.4 MPH, both achievements place the terminal in the global top ten for productivity
•In October, more than 100,000 TEUs passed through Khalifa Port – the highest number of containers ever handled in a single month in the emirate of Abu Dhabi
•Earlier this month, Khalifa Port hits the 1 million TEU benchmark, a record number of containers since the start of operations
•At Khalifa Port, the turnaround time for trucks to pick up and drop off containers is now just 15 minutes.
