Alba sheds light on economic growth role

Aluminium Bahrain's (Alba) credentials as a supporter of fair trade practices across the globe were emphasised during a meeting with a ministerial delegation from Paraguay.

Alba chief executive Laurent Schmitt met a Paraguayan delegation including Environment Minister Oscar Rivas and Industry and Commerce Minister Francisco Rivas.

The Paraguayan delegation is on a visit to Bahrain to explore opportunities to strengthen trading ties with Bahrain as well as meet industry leaders and learn of their success stories. The delegation was accompanied by officials from Midal Group.

"For the past 40 years, Alba has invested in transforming itself into an ecofriendly smelter whose presence benefits the community it is part of, and also, enables employees to enjoy a safe work environment," said Schmitt.

"As the first smelter in the Middle East, Alba has also played a key role in initiating the growth of Bahrain's aluminium sector and in making it a leading contributor to the kingdom's gross domestic product," he stated.

"It was a privilege to share Alba's success story with the Paraguayan delegation and to promote the business friendly environment of Bahrain," he added.

The Paraguayan delegation and the team from Midal Cables were given a tour of the facilities in the plant and briefed on the aluminium production process.

They were also given insight on the company's credentials as a corporate citizen, environmental commitment, safety policies, adherence to quality as well as its role as an industrial powerhouse in Bahrain.-TradeArabia News Service
