Centre to conduct BOS workshops

Abu Dhabi, January 31, 2012

Middle East Management Centre (MEMC) will conduct Blue Ocean Strategy (BOS) executive workshops for the first time in the Middle East region in Abu Dhabi and Doha.

The workshops will take place at the Shangri-La Hotel in Abu Dhabi on March 6 and Four Seasons Hotel in Doha on March 8, a statement from the centre said.

The aim of BOS is not to out-perform the competition in the existing industry, but to create new market space or a blue ocean, thereby making the competition irrelevant.

It was developed by Professors W Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne, the statement said.

The strategy is the result of a decade-long study of 150 strategic moves spanning more than 30 industries over 100 years.

Nader Hamid, customised solutions manager at MEMC, said: “In this one-day BOS executive workshop in each city, participants will be able to understand how they can break away from the competition by following a rigorous and systematic process to create and capture high-growth and profitable new markets.”

It is a new thinking and creative tools and concepts of strategies that can assess on how best a company can generate high-growth and high-profit strategies and an ideal starting point for top management and senior directors to learn BOS logic tools and frameworks.

The workshops are open to chief executives, managing directors and senior managers with responsibilities for sales, marketing, finance, strategy, operations, human resources, learning and development, customer services and IT, the statement said.

The sessions will be conducted by John Riker, managing director of the Blue Ocean Strategy–Initiative Centre. He has led BOS initiatives in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa, across industries as diverse as media, food and beverages, pharmaceutical, telecoms, industrial ceramics and financial services, it said. – TradeArabia News Service
