Jassim Transport & Stevedoring Company (JTC) has won a four-year contract to handle general cargo and transportation throughout the Kuwaiti sea and land trade gates and Kuwait Free Trade Zone.
JTC said the awarding of the contract by the Kuwait Public Authority for Industry (PAI) further consolidated its position as one of Kuwait’s leading logistics companies.
The scope of the contract includes comprehensive logistics solutions, advanced cargo handling services, extendable logistics and transportation services from the ports to Kuwait’s land borders with Iraq and Saudi that supports the cargo transit through Kuwait with value added activities and enhances Kuwait position as a transit hub in the Middle East.
The project for the establishment of the Free Trade Zone is a key element in the government’s vision to transfer Kuwait into a Global Financial and Trade Hub.
By granting exemptions from taxes and customs duties, issuing licenses on the spot and having as little state intervention as possible, the Kuwait Free Trade Zone promises to give competition to the neighboring free zones in Dubai and Iran, in the near future.
The operation of the free zone is managed by PAI – Public Authority for Industry and is supervised by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (“MCI”)
Andreas Mohr, CEO said, “JTC proved that it had the expertise and credentials to be able to facilitate this contract, I believe that our focus on quality, and the ability to meet our customer’s high standards was the decisive factor in winning this contract.”
“We were up against stiff competition from strong local logistics companies in Kuwait, so we are proud to have been elected by PAI. We are now looking forward to serving their logistics needs,' he added.
Mohr said JCT was well equipped to support the needs of Kuwait Free Trade Zone with its regional presence and comprehensive portfolio of services.
'The services offered to PAI are a natural expansion of our current activities and expertise in ports management and the Free Trade Zone activities,' he added.-TradeArabia News Service
