Alba staff praised for research in safety
Manama, July 6, 2010
An employee of Aluminium Bahrain (Alba), one of the largest aluminium smelters in the world, recently won praise for his research paper on safety by Alba’s CEO.
Safety superintendent Mahmood A Aziz’s research on “Safety climate – exploring perceptions of safety management in an aluminium organisation of Bahrain” was part of his requirement in securing an MSc in occupational and environmental health and safety management from the school of environmental design and management (distance learning), University of Portsmouth.
“We encourage our employees to pursue higher studies and develop specialisations in their area of work,” said Laurent Schmitt, chief executive, Alba.
“We believe this will help in creating a knowledgeable workforce that can greatly contribute to the success of the company and in ensuring that Alba continues remain one of the leading aluminium smelters in the world."
"I like to congratulate Mahmood Aziz on his achievement, and praise the hard work and dedication that has gone into his research," Schmitt added.
Mahmood Aziz undertook a safety survey that involved non-management staff to learn about their perceptions on safety at the work place.
The results indicated a highly positive employee perception towards safety management, and showed an upbeat safety climate throughout the company. – TradeArabia News Service
