GOP in major Jordan maritime pact

Manama, March 4, 2010

A high-level delegation from the General Organisation of Seaports (GOP) visited Aqaba in Jordan and signed a co-operation agreement with the Jordanian Maritime Authority.

The delegation, which was headed by GOP director general Hassan Ali Al Majed, made the visit following an official invitation from the Jordanian Maritime Authority to explore means of mutual co-operation between the two countries in the maritime and seaports industry, and to benefit from Jordanian expertise in this area.

The key outcome of the visit was the signing of a MoU between GOP and the Jordanian Maritime Authority on the mutual acknowledgement of certificates of seafarers, issued by both administrations in accordance with the international conventions on the Standards of Training and Watchkeeping.

'GOP's aim is to enhance relations with leading maritime administrative bodies in the region and to explore opportunities for mutual co-operation with industry leaders. We also aim to ensure that we implement the best industry practice in our operations,' said Al Majed.

'The MoU signing represents a strategic and pioneering step towards mutual co-operation in the seaports and maritime industries between the two countries.

'We are confident that this visit will further strengthen ties and lead to enhanced co-operation between the GOP and the Jordanian Maritime Authority,' he added.-TradeArabia News Service
