Dubai police chief briefed on DIC

Dubai, July 25, 2009

Dubai’s top police officer recently made an official visit to Dubai Industrial City (DIC) in which he was briefed about the development and infrastructure projects located across the six industrial zones of the industrial destination.

Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Chief of Dubai Police, was also provided with an overview of safety standards at DIC which will house more than 500 light and medium industrial factories when the city is completed in 2010.

The industrial destination is also expected to house around 350,000 people across its industrial as well as commercial zones.

The police officer’s delegation toured the main offices of DIC, the offices of Dubai Industrial Academy (DIA) and was also given a presentation on the growth and development of the city and its future plans.

They were also introduced to the services of Taasees, the largest government service centre in the UAE through which businesses can access the services of 10 government departments all under one roof.

“Dubai Industrial City is one of the strategic projects in the UAE that plays a key role in promoting local industry, supporting the national economy, and elevating services to international standards,” said Lt Gen Dahi Khalfan.

He called for a proactive approach to facilitate investment in the sector in addition to re-examining any regulations that might impede this progress. He also noted the need for nurturing industrial leaders through programmes such as those currently being offered at DIA.

Lt General Dahi Khalfan added: “Dubai Police has always been supportive of this destination and with the current construction of various industrial facilities and infrastructure projects and the operation of several of them within the next couple of months will lead to closer levels of cooperation with DIC on traffic, safety of facilities and other related issues."

Rashed Al Ansari, vice president of DIC, said the visit of Lt General Dahi Khalfan underlined the vital role the Dubai Industrial City plays in supporting the industrial sector across Dubai.

The light and medium weight industrial zone currently features 2.8 million sq ft of open storage yards, 3 million sq ft of warehouses in addition to 64 showrooms and four office buildings. DIC is also witnessing the construction of 30 manufacturing facilities at a cost of Dh1 billion ($272 million) that are due to be operational by the end of 2010. – TradeArabia News Service
