MDC in deal to set up metals factory in Jordan

Amman, July 5, 2008

Ma'an Development Company (MDC) has signed an agreement with Hadeed Emirates Construction, to develop a metals factory within the 'Industrial Park' of the Ma'an Development Area (MDA).

The project will be the first of its kind in the Kingdom, and will cater to the growing construction and real estate sector in Jordan and the region.

It is in line with King Abdullah II's vision to develop and foster the economy of the South of Jordan, said a government official.

Consisting of four complementary clusters including a residential community, an industrial zone, a Hajj city, and a vocational training center, the MDA is set to become a regional hub for industrial activity and a centre of excellence for vocational training.

Besides it will also serve as a religious landmark for pilgrims on their way to the Holy cities, offering them the ideal environment for their rest, relaxation and prayer.

MDA will also be home to a thriving and self-sustained city providing its residents and visitors with a quality living and working environment to fulfill their potential, the official said.

Samir Dabbas, CEO of Hadeed Emirates Construction, and Mohammad Turk, CEO of South Company for Construction and Development (SCCD) signed the MoU.

As per the agreement, Hadeed Emirates Construction will establish the factory over 50,000 sq m of land.

The factory will be developed in two phases and will, upon its opening, include production lines requiring an operating staff of more than 250 employees, creating new job opportunities for the residents of Ma’an and boosting economic activity in the governorate.

'MDA aspires to become the regional hub for industrial investments and the manufacturing of construction materials,” Turk said at the signing ceremony.

'We are honored to be collaborating with Hadeed Emirates Construction and having them join as a new member of the ‘MDA Industrial Park,' he observed.

MDA seeks to continually focus its efforts in attracting new businesses and investors with its goal set to raise the quality of living in Ma'an and to assist the residents of the South of Jordan in achieving their ambitions, he added.

Established in 2001, Hadeed Emirates Construction currently has projects worth Dh500 million in the UAE.

The company specializes in the field of design, manufacturing and the supply of prefabricated metal structures.

Its portfolio includes projects such as the Abu Dhabi Trade Centre in the Mussafah Industrial City, the Itihad Airlines building, the Jebel Ali International Airport, the Mussafah port, and the Zayed Port.-TradeArabia News Service
