DIA gets international accreditation
Dubai, April 13, 2008
Dubai Industrial Academy (DIA), an initiative by Dubai Industrial City (DIC), has secured approval from the UK-based City & Guilds, one of the world-acclaimed vocational awarding bodies, for short programmes offered by its dedicated vocational training centre.
This is the first international accreditation for DIA, covering 28 of its courses that are currently on offer. City & Guilds is the only UK awarding body dedicated to vocational education and is recognised across the industry as the most relevant awards organisation in terms of sustainability of qualifications and qualifications development, said an official spokesman.
“International recognition and accreditation from a prestigious organisation such as City & Guilds is essential for DIA to further its objective of becoming the leading certification authority to grant internationally certified industrial training programmes in the UAE. Such recognition will strengthen our resolve to continue helping and training industrial professionals, and create a future workforce armed with sufficient expertise and knowledge,” said CEO of Dubai Industrial City, a member of Tatweer, Rashed Al Ansari.
Dubai Industrial Academy’s partner, The UK-based Technical Training Group (TTE), has been working with City & Guilds to develop standards for the industrial sector. The process includes the scrutiny of its short course programmes by City & Guilds through an approval mechanism evaluating its content, delivery and assessment, and ensuring that successful candidates receive the City & Guild certification.
Established in 1878, City & Guilds offers learners over 500 qualifications in 28 industry areas and operates in around 100 countries, through 8,500 centres worldwide.
The Dubai Industrial Academy, the first of its kind in the UAE, is a dedicated vocational training centre set up by Dubai Industrial City, with a focus on providing a wide range of training solutions to serve the growing needs of the industrial sector in the UAE and the region covering eight industrial sectors of Quality, Health, Safety and the Environment (QHSE), Mechanical engineering, Electrical and power engineering, Instrumentation, Chemical process and laboratory operations, Oil and gas, Construction, as well as Technical and supervisory development.
All the courses offered will primarily serve six major industrial sectors - food and beverage, base metal, mineral products, chemicals, transport equipment and parts, and machinery and mechanical equipment industries - the same six zones that Dubai Industrial City focuses on. – TradeArabia News Service
