Sharjah launches automated parking ticket system
Sharjah, January 9, 2008
Sharjah Municipality has launched a fully-automated parking ticket system as part of its ongoing campaign to build Sharjah as an economically and socially well-developed Emirate.
Founded in the year 1927, Sharjah Municipality is one of the oldest municipalities in the UAE and the Arab Gulf region. The transport and freightage department of Sharjah Municipality has become the first to introduce a mobility solution using Motorola and Zebra Technologies devices for their Paid Parking Section, in association with Barcode Gulf.
This brings together a fully automated mobile system within the department. The new system allows traffic wardens to issue fines within seconds and synchronise the issuance seamlessly with Sharjah’s Police Traffic Department, delivering faster, more efficient results to Sharjah residents and visitors.
“After one year testing different products, we chose Barcode Gulf, distributor for Zebra Technologies and Motorola, based on the quality, value, and performance of their solution and products offered. This successful implementation is a step forward to reaching our wider goals in delivering first-class results in all areas of Sharjah,” said head of transport and communications, Sharjah Municipality, Abdul Rahman Ahmed Al Mahmoud.
The new systems stands to revolutionise the existing procedure, where traffic wardens took up to three minutes to issue a ticket, and handwriting posed immense challenges and room for error.
Wardens will be issued with a Motorola MC70 handheld computer and a Zebra MZ220 printer, where they can monitor parking tickets by scanning the barcode on the parking card to see if the ticket is still valid. In case of ticket expiry, the warden can issue a parking fine on the spot. The newly proposed solution from Barcode Gulf does away with handwriting.
“Motorola enterprise mobility solutions help customers in a broad range of industries improve business operations throughout an organisation. Focused on meeting customer demands, our new product offerings combine innovative design and technologies for connectivity, manageability and real-time access to business-critical information," said Motorola Enterprise Mobility’s Middle East regional channel manager Tarek Hassaniyeh.
The Zebra MZ220 are unobtrusive printers and weigh less than three-fourth of a pound, so they can be worn comfortably for a full shift without interfering with the user’s tasks. Stylish and compact, they’re ideal for customer-facing applications where an industrial-looking printer just won’t do. Its features and functions are intuitive and easy to operate as well. – TradeArabia News Service
