GML sets up warehouse in Rotterdam

Dubai:, December 10, 2007

GAC Marine Logistics (GML) has set up a new warehouse facility in Rotterdam, the company said in a statement.

Located near the sea-port, the warehouse spreads over 2,160 square metres and offers more than 1,300 pallet positions, it added.

Specially configured to meet the demands of spares storage – which require flexible options due to the huge variance in size and weight – the facility also offers an open storage area as well as office accommodation.

“As a maritime hub, Rotterdam is a traditional point for both procurement and delivery of ship spares for vessel calls in Europe. Its Rotterdam office acts as a central base for servicing Europe-based clients, and the establishment of a warehouse facility is a natural extension to its suite of specialised ship spares management services,” said Managing Director Chris Steibelt.

“Having our own modern facility for receiving, storing and delivery of spares gives us greater control in ensuring speedy response and seamless co-ordination in ship spares movement to offer shipowners and suppliers customised solutions to their spares requirements.”

“The Rotterdam warehouse operation replicates the best practices in third party logistics which GAC has developed over the past fifteen years in serving leading companies from a diverse range of sectors from fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) to automotives,” said Steibelt.

GAC has established a long-standing leadership record in warehouse design, management and operations, the company said.

“We are applying many of the proven standard operating procedures and processes to ships spares warehouse management. A key aspect will be utilising GAC’s proprietary online warehouse management system GACWare for efficient inventory management. ”

This investment is part of GML’s global expansion strategy which has also seen the company extending its footprint to Hong Kong, Greece and Rotterdam this year and boosting its staff strength to service the rapidly growing client base. These new locations add on to GML’s existing presence in Dubai, Singapore, Mumbai and Sao Paolo. – TradeArabia News Service
