Inter-GCC coach services planned

Doha, September 11, 2007

A Qatar-based leading transport company is planning to start inter-GCC coach services, a report said.

Mowasalat believes that the availability of a high-quality, low-cost service would immensely benefit a large number of people, the government-run company’s mass transit director Anthony Tallant was quoted as saying by the Gulf Times.

He, however, added a number of implications such as the capacity of the bus stations and border crossings should be addressed first to ensure that the company could provide high-quality services to other GCC states.

Tallant said at an average the Mowasalat buses operated 3,000 trips a day, adding that long-distance services to locations like Abu Samra Border Post, Um Babb and Dukhan had considerably helped increase the mobility of people.
