Enel plans Saudi projects

Milan, July 21, 2007

Italy's biggest utility, Enel, would launch a series of energy projects in Saudi Arabia as it aims to expand in the country, Enel said.

Under a memorandum of understanding with Saudi Arabia's General Investment Authority (SAGIA), Enel would participate in  installing digital electricity meters and developing electricity transport and distribution grids, it said in a statement.

Enel would also take part in renewable energy projects, including the development of high-efficiency thermodynamic solar plants.

Enel did not say how much it plans to invest in these and other projects in Saudi Arabia where it was chosen as a partner for the energy part of a programme to develop six new cities.Reuters
