Musanada awards SKMC dialysis centre contract

Abu Dhabi, November 23, 2013

The Abu Dhabi General Services (Musanada) has signed up Al Fara'a General Contracting for the construction of the dialysis centre at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) which is due for launch and operation by the second quarter of 2016.

This development has been commissioned by the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA). Construction will commence following the approval of the executive committee of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and its official adoption of the project.

Once completed, the project will provide dialysis treatment services for residents of Abu Dhabi and its surroundings, said a statement from Musanada.

Mohamed Khalifa Al-Fahed Al-Mehairi, the CEO of Musanada, said: “The centre will include 66 kidney dialysis units when completed, in addition to other departments, visitors’ services and a sufficient number of parking lots, as well as internal and external green spaces.”

“For the implementation of the project, Musanada has contracted with Al Fara'a and awarded the project to them. It is expected that the construction, equipment and furniture works of the SKMC Dialysis Centre will take around 18 months to complete. It is anticipated that the completion of the construction and delivery of the facility to SEHA for launch and operation will be carried out in the second quarter of 2016.”

“The centre enjoys a strategic location in the heart of Abu Dhabi city, and it is easily accessible from various surrounding areas,” explained Al-Mehairi.

Seha CEO Carl Stanifer said the provision of the SKMC Dialysis Centre will incorporate the latest high-quality medical technologies and devices, which will contribute to the provision of world-class medical care to patients.

"The centre has also been designed to deal with the expected increase in population in the coming years. The new centre will also reduce maintenance costs and provide a number of requisite administrative support services, including meeting rooms and parking lots," he added.

According to Stanifer, Seha has contracted exclusively with Fresenius Medical Care Renal Services, the world's largest provider of integrated dialysis services, in order to manage its dialysis centres.

"This will contribute to the provision of the finest medical services in the UAE for patients with chronic kidney failure," he stated.

“The centre will bolster other dialysis centres operating in Abu Dhabi, including Al Mafraq Dialysis Centre, which consists of 66 units, and Tawam Dialysis Centre, with 99 units. Once in service, the centre will operate over three shifts per day instead of two, according to current planning, in order to meet the projected patient load, which is expected to be huge," he added.

The centre extends over an area of nearly 7,000 square metres of buildings, in addition to green spaces and parking lots.-TradeArabia News Service
