Free health check-ups for UAE residents

Dubai, September 16, 2010

UAE residents will be able to have their health examined and receive personalised fitness assessment for free in Dubai on September 25 and 26.

The health check-ups offered by The City Hospital, Welcare Clinic Mirdif and Welcare Clinic Ibn Battuta include random cholesterol, blood pressure and body mass index (BMI) tests.

Expert trainers from Technogym, a leading fitness appliances provider, will offer free one on one personalised fitness assessments along with exercise tips to suit one’s health.

They will explain and demonstrate to visitors the importance of looking at your heart rate function when exercising and benefits to your overall health. This will be done using equipment provided by Technogym and explained verbally.

The activities on the days are in acknowledgement of World Heart Day, an initiative of the World Heart Federation and the World Health Organisation. The annual event is marked in more than a hundred countries.

Heart disease, responsible for 22 per cent of fatalities in the UAE, is the leading cause of death in the country. Worldwide, it claims a staggering 17 million lives each year. Risk factors for cardiovascular diseases include high blood pressure, high cholesterol and glucose levels, smoking and inadequate intake of fruit and vegetables, as well as being overweight and/or physically inactive.

“The aim of the testing is to provide people in the UAE with a better understanding of their own risk of cardiovascular disease. Through awareness, a simple plan of action can be developed to improve the condition of their cardiac health,” said Dr Pietie Loubser, chief clinical officer at EHL.

Guillaume Mariole, Technogym Emirates master trainer said: “World Heart Day is the perfect chance for the community to learn a little about themselves, their bodies and how they tick.”

“The Technogym team will be sharing their experience as well as provide tips with the overall goal to enrich and make a difference to someone's life,” he added. – TradeArabia News Service
