DPG to set up Dubai Autism Centre booth

Dubai, September 19, 2009

Dubai Properties Group (DPG), a member of Dubai Holding, will host a stand for Dubai Autism Centre at Jumeirah Beach Residence as part of its corporate responsibility (CR) agenda to educate the community on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Located next to Chilli’s at The Walk, the stand will run till September 22 and operate from 8am to midnight. Booklets and brochures with information on how to detect and treat the disorder will also be given away to visitors.

In keeping with the spirit of the season, Dubai Properties Group also unveiled today its ‘Fill Your Box’ campaign, in conjunction with Dubai Charity Association.

The initiative invites employees to collect boxes or cartons of two different sizes from the CR department and fill it with new or used items in good working condition such as clothes, shoes, bags, home appliances and toys. Dubai Charity Association will collect the boxes once every two days and donate them to people in need around the UAE, said a senior official.

Fareda Abdullah, executive director of Human Capital at Dubai Properties Group, said: "Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder require special attention, while their parents need an equal measure of support. Our initiative to host the Dubai Autism Centre booth comes from our collective responsibility towards different segments of the society."

“Our ’Fill the Box’ initiative has been designed to encourage the spirit of charity among employees during the Holy Month of Ramadan.”

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a developmental neurological disorder characterized by deficits in social behaviour and communication with a restricted range of activities.

ASD transcends social, cultural, and geographical boundaries. At least one in 150 individuals is affected with ASD, which accounts for a diagnosis every 20 minutes. Autism negatively impacts the entire family and the society in general.-TradeArabia News Service
