GDC seminar highlights updates on dentistry

Gulf Dental College, a constituent college of Gulf Medical University, organised a seminar on Updates on Dentistry in which, the use of stem cells was highlighted.

More than 100 doctors from all over UAE attended the seminar, which was held in association with the Ministry of Health and Emirates Medical Association – Dental Society.

Dr Suhail Husseini, a leading dental practitioner from Dubai emphasised the use of stem cells for the growth of new bone.

Hence Implant cases with bone deficit would be the ideal situation to the stem cells from their own blood, which helps for better bone repair with more than 90 per cent predictability in the results.

Dr Vijay Desai, faculty from Ajman University, spoke on 'Periodontal Infection and systemic disease - is it a two way street'. He spoke about the importance of and correlation of systemic diseases and the oral health, diseases like cardio vascular, respiratory and pre-term low birth weight babies are all the factors of poor oral hygiene, to combat these risk factors he stressed the importance of regular dental consultation, counseling on the diet habits would help.

Dr Fawaz Al Majali, senior specialist from Al Baraha hospital presented on 'Al Baraha experience in Maxillofacial Trauma' and highlighted the complexity of cases he has encountered and the psychological trauma which the patient will go through subsequently was discussed.

Dr Jayalakshmi, associate dean of Gulf Dental college focused her presentation on the advantages of using Microscope for all the applications in Endodontics, in her presentation entitled 'Micro-endodontics: A trend for better patient care'.-TradeArabia News Service
