Bahrain to host key radiology conference
Manama, September 12, 2007
The latest techniques in the radiological treatment of cancer will be highlighted at an upcoming event in Bahrain.
The annual workshop of the International Scientific Exchange Programme (ISEP) will be held at the Gulf Hotel's Gulf International Convention Centre from November 18 to 22 under the patronage of Health Minister Dr Nada Haffadh.
This is the first time the event is being held in Bahrain and only the second time in the Middle East, said organising committee head and Health Ministry radiology advisor Dr Najeeb Jamsheer.
The workshop, which will feature several local and international speakers, is being supported by the International Organisation of Medical Physics (IOMP), the American Association of Physics in Medicine (AAPM), Bahrain University, the BDF Hospital and the Bahrain Society of Medical Physicists and Biomedical Engineers (BSMPBE).
"The event is recognised the world over as a forum for radiologists and radiological research," Dr Jamsheer told a Press conference at the Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) yesterday.
"We anticipate health care professionals from several countries, in addition to those from Bahrain, to attend.
"It will consist of workshops and lectures on various aspects of the applications of physics in medicine, emphasising diagnostic imaging techniques and radiation treatment of cancer."
He said the events will be conducted by local specialists as well as visiting physicists from the US.
"An international workshop in medical physics is being held in order for the workers to use the best and safest methods in diagnostic imaging, radiation therapy and management in other diseases in an effort to provide better treatment options through implementation of state of art technologies and techniques," said Dr Jamsheer
He said medical physicists, radiologists, radiation therapists, technologists involved in diagnostic imaging, radiation oncologists, biomedical engineers, professors in university physics departments who are interested in medical physics have been invited to attend. - TradeArabia News Service
