GEMS to open four new schools in 2018 in UAE

DUBAI, February 20, 2018

GEMS Education has announced the opening of four new schools in the UAE for the 2018/2019 academic year.

GEMS Vertus School and GEMS Founders School – Mizhar will open in Dubai, while an international curriculum school will open on Al Reem Island in Abu Dhabi, and an Indian curriculum GEMS school will open in Sharjah.

Dino Varkey, chief executive officer, GEMS Education, said: “Our expansion plans are in direct response to the increased demands for high quality education in the UAE. These additional schools and campuses will provide even more families with the opportunity to access great value for money schools.

“Each new school will be built to ensure that students are learning in environments that allow our experienced educators to nurture each of their individual talents. Our teachers will continue to receive training through the Tellal Institute, ensuring that they have access to the most innovative best practises of learning and teaching from around the world.

“Our rigorous recruitment of exceptional leaders has ensured that our new schools are going to be led by some of the best educators in the world.”

GEMS Vertus School will be located in the Al Waha region of Dubai, and will offer the National Curriculum for England. Initially open to students from Foundation Stage to Year 8 with fees from AED 34,000 to 42,500, the school will be led by John Hughes, who was most recently Vice Principal of GEMS Metropole School.

GEMS Founders School – Mizhar, will be located in Al Mizhar, near Midriff and is modelled after the very successful GEMS Founders School in Al Barsha. Nigel Cropley, most recently principal of GEMS Winchester School – Abu Dhabi, will lead the school, which will offer the National Curriculum for England to students from Foundation Stage to Year 8 with fees ranging from AED22,000 to 29,000. The school will add grades naturally over the years.
Built on the 50 years of excellence from the Our Own English High Schools, GEMS Education will open a new school in the Juwaiza’a area of Sharjah. Open initially to students from Kindergarten to Grade 5, the Indian Curriculum school will have natural growth in the older grades.

Michael Guzder, vice president – Indian Schools, GEMS Education will support the school which will be led by Principal, Sangita Chima. Chima has over 30 years of experience in education and joins the new school from The Lawrence School - Lovedale in Ooty, India.

In Abu Dhabi, GEMS Education will open a new International Curriculum School on Al Reem Island. This new IB candidate school, will cater to students from Kindergarten to Year 5.
