Work is progressing at a steady pace on a girl school coming up over a 50,000-sq-m area in Jaww, a village on the south eastern coast of Bahrain, with 64 per cent of the project already completed, said a report.

The Jaw Comprehensive School for Girls, a 4-building complex which boasts a construction area of 26,500 sq m, can accommodate 1,440 students in 48 classrooms, reported BNA.

Its key features include hitech multifunctional sports hall, science, computer and home sciences labs, a library, cafeteria in addition to a guard room, offices for the teaching and administrative faculty and other service facilities such as toilets and store rooms.

The school building has been designed based on the latest requirements of the Ministry of Education; taking into account sustainability and green buildings measures, in addition to implementing key facilities for students and staff with special needs and pregnant women, said a senior official.

A parking lot for those with special needs has been placed close to the main entrances of the school and slopes have been provided at all entrances, in addition to the usage of non-slippery vinyl floors in all rooms, passages, stairs and steps, stated Raed Al Salah, the assistant undersecretary of corporate municipal services and acting assistant undersecretary for Construction Projects and Maintenance department.

Also, elevators have been placed close to the entrances to accommodate people with special needs and appropriate toilets have been designed to serve this group, in addition to an air-conditioned waiting area, he added.

Al Salah was accompanied by Construction Projects Director Mariam Amin and a number of engineers from the ministry, said the BNA report.

The work on the sub-power station is over and has been handed over to the Electricity & Water Authority (EWA), it added.

Also, the construction of the structure on the school buildings including elementary, intermediate and secondary stages have been completed besides the guard room, said Al Salah.
