AbbVie helps set up a library for disabled children in Jeddah

JEDDAH, July 9, 2015

AbbVie, a leading biopharmaceutical company, has supported to setup a library for the Jeddah Disabled Children Association (DCA).

This initiative is part of ‘The Week of Possibilities’ - AbbVie’s global program focusing on education, said a statement.

To make the activity more engaging and meaningful, around 60 AbbVie employees in Jeddah volunteered to assemble the furniture of the library, it said.

Dr Zubair Al-Maimani, the centre director of the Disabled Children Association, said: “We are delighted with the new library since it greatly enhances our educational capabilities and will significantly enrich the lives of the children.

“Also, I must express my appreciation of AbbVie donating the funds to build the library for the Disabled Children Association and the support given by AbbVie employees who volunteered their time to assemble the furnishings of the library and stock it with books.”

Rami Fayed, general manager, AbbVie in Saudi Arabia, said: “Improving education gives all children a better opportunity to realize their full potential. We’re committed to that effort and we are very pleased to be given this opportunity to setup the library for the Jeddah Disabled Children Association. We are confident that our volunteer work during the Week of Possibilities will have a long-lasting impact and a remarkable impact of people’s lives.”

The Disabled Children’s Association (DCA) was established to provide comprehensive care for disabled children through a range of free therapeutic and rehabilitation services.

The association also aims to enlighten and educate society on the causes of disability and means of prevention, thus helping to promote more positive attitudes towards disabled people. It also supports the scientific research needed to establish effective programmes.

The year, the programme includes more than 39 countries and more than 55 separate hands-on service projects, with a special emphasis on transforming education in ways that will improve the lives of those in underserved populations.

AbbVie and the AbbVie Foundation have committed more than $1.3 million to Week of Possibility projects, and the company has donated the time of all its employee volunteers to help carry out the projects. - TradeArabia News Service
