The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (Cima), the world’s leading professional body of management accountants, has elected Myriam Madden as president for the forthcoming year following the annual general meeting held earlier this month.

Madden is an expert in finance and operational transformation across a broad range of organisations in the public sector, financial services and internationally in global blue-chip companies.

She has a strong background in finance and business with extensive experience in governance, business strategy, mergers, acquisitions and operational transformation.

The organisations where Madden has led change programmes and finance functions include HBOS, Hewlett Packard, Agilent, Scottish Arts Council, NHS and Historic Scotland.

She is a graduate of University College Cork with an honours degree in commerce and business.

Madden has held global governance roles at Cima since 2007 which included roles as deputy and vice president, chair of the global members’ services committee and a board member of the audit and risk committee.

She also served on the board of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountant (Aicpa).

With this appointment, Madden now becomes Cima’s 82nd president, a voluntary role responsible for chairing the institute’s governance arrangements and advocating for Cima and management accounting.

She will preside over an important period for Cima as the organisation continues to promote management accounting in business.

It will also continue to build on its joint venture with Aicpa to establish the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation as the global quality standard for the profession.

On the new role, Madden said: “As President, I am excited by Cima’s impact in contributing to the success of businesses and their boards in all the major global cities.”
