Top companies back Omanisation career fair

MUSCAT, April 16, 2015

A trio of Oman’s leading business organisations will discuss their Omanisation initiatives and the employment scene in the Sultanate at an upcoming career fair in Muscat.

The Omanisation Career Fair (OCF) will run from April 20 to 22 at the Oman International Exhibition Centre.

Ooredoo Oman, a leading telecom service provider, prioritises the development of local talent and has already undertaken a competency based assessment of their resources, said Salma Al-Harthy, department head - People Resourcing, Ooredoo.

“Our Omanisation programme is reported to, reviewed and monitored by our board members on a monthly basis.  We have seen a positive growth in the telecoms sector and are, to a large extent, able to meet our Omanisation aspirations. We see an improvement in the skill levels of nationals and this significantly contributes to improving industry related skills across Oman.

“Careers fairs like OCF are also a recruitment channel that presents several potential benefits to the companies that attend them. There is also the added benefit of these fairs to meet people face to face and connect with the youth,” she added.

Integrated Telecommunications Oman (TeO) has set their target Omanisation ratio at 90 per cent, aiming to reach this ratio by acquiring Omani talent, according to Gurkan Ozturk, CEO, TeO.

“As a new-comer to the Telecom industry, we are currently building awareness among Omanis, forging strategic partnerships with universities & technical colleges and participating in career fairs like OCF,” he explained.

“Coupled with meeting Omanisation targets, HR has to ensure the right people fill up organization vacancies, keeping in line with the company’s manpower plan while pleasing all stakeholders and staying within budget.

“Fresh graduates are welcome to apply for network operation center, call center, marketing design, IT and accounting/finance positions and can find out more about our vacancies at OCF,” added Ozturk.

MHD, a major conglomerate, has launched its Omanisation programme known as ‘Induction Programme’ designed solely and specifically for Omani nationals.

“As part of the programme, trainees spend quality time with qualified instructors who ensure their successful integration into MHD’s workforce. Communication, information technology, finance, administration, selling skills and languages are just a few examples of the type of training received at the MHD Training Centre during the Induction period”,” said Maher Al Obaid Al Awad, general manager, MHD.

“We hope to interact with a large number of students and working individuals wanting to further enhance their careers, update prospective employees on the current trends and requirements in the job market and showcase Omanisation achievements and future plans to attendees,” he added.

OCF 2015 will be hosted alongside OITE’s Global Higher Education Exhibition (GHEDEX). - TradeArabia News Service
