MANAMA, February 2, 2015
InterContinental Regency Bahrain, one of the leading 5-star hotels in the Kingdom, has tied up with Bahrain Polytechnic for student Internship at the hotel through its IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) Academy.
The first batch of intake for 2015 started with 10 Bahrain Polytechnic students signing up for the training programme, which started on January 25 and will continue until mid of February. The programme is being conducted under the guidance of IHG Academy located at the hotel’s premises.
The 10 Bahraini students currently pursuing their engineering degree at Bahrain Polytechnic are undergoing the internship programme aimed at equipping them with awareness and skills on the property operation, maintenance and energy conservation (POMEC) in the hotel setting with combined theoretical knowledge and practical exposures.
The IHG Academy aims at improving employment opportunities and creating more job prospects in the Kingdom by training individuals in different departments and providing them the experience of working in the real work environment to build sustainable communities around hotels and in the hospitality industry at large.
Mohammed Sanad, hotel manager said: “Our aim is to motivate young individuals who may be our potential employees in the near future. Such programme proves to be vital for individuals to understand the importance of the POMEC Department in the hospitality sector.”
“The students undergoing this exposure are certain to benefit as this programme provides them with knowledge about the significance of their department for the successful functioning of a hotel.
“This further gives them an insight into the functioning of hotels, making them well primed before they begin their professional career where actual field exposure is the best way to learn. Moreover, it is a great opportunity for the students in the Kingdom to acquire the skills necessary for them to excel in their career,” he added.
Through this programme, the hotel aims to educate students about the vital role of the POMEC Department in the Hospitality sector. This department acts as the pillar for all other departments in a hotel, besides resolving daily technical issues; it is the department that decides on further planning of the property, developing innovative technological solutions like the IHG ‘Green Engage’. POMEC department also looks into the budget as per repairs and maintenance to ensure smooth functioning of a hotel.
The internship programme is led by the Hotel’s chief engineer Lawrence D'Souza, in cooperation with his supervisory team members.
At the end of their internship, the students will be awarded recognition certificates to confirm their successful programme completion. – TradeArabia News Service
