GAA wins top training centre certification

Manama, April 16, 2014

Gulf Aviation Academy (GAA), Bahrain's premier aviation training academy, has been awarded the Aviation Security Training Centre (ASTC) certification from the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

The presentation took place at GAA's simulator building in Muharraq, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

ICAO secretary-general Raymond Benjamin, Public Security chief Major-General Tariq Al Hassan, acting under-secretary at the Transportation Ministry's Civil Aviation Affairs Ahmed Nemat, Gulf Air acting chief executive Maher Al Musallam, Bahrain Airport Company CEO Mohamed Yusuf Al Binfalah, acting CEO of Bahrain Airport Services Salman Al Mahmeed, UN Resident Co-ordinator Peter Grohmann and other officials were present.

Representing the academy was GAA chairman Captain Ishaq Al Kooheji, CEO Captain Dhaffer Al Abbasi, and other board members.

Upon receiving this certification, GAA will be able to conduct ICAO approved programmes for airport security personnel and other airport stakeholders.

This falls in line with GAA's vision of being the region's centre for comprehensive aviation training.

The academy has already commenced several training courses in co-ordination with Bahrain Civil Aviation Affairs and other local clients will be the Interior Ministry, Bahrain Airport Company and Bahrain Customs.

The ASTC accreditation is the first of several accreditations that GAA is co-operating with ICAO on. Next in line is the establishment of GAA as an accredited ICAO Air Traffic Control Training Centre. - TradeArabia News Service
