ADU, China varsity in academic exchange
Abu Dhabi, March 31, 2011
Abu Dhabi University (ADU) is collaborating with China-based Shenyang University of Chemical Technology (SUCT), to establish academic exchange and cooperation between the two countries.
According to the memorandum of understanding (MoU), both institutions will establish and promote the development of joint studies, training activities and research and other educational programmes in science and technology.
ADU will also offer training and consultancy services to the business enterprises of Liaoning Province in China in part through curriculum development at SUCT.
As part of the MoU, ADU and SUCT will also develop ‘1+3’ dual-degree academic programmes for interested SUCT students. Students under this programme will complete one year of study at SUCT and the remainder of their degrees at ADU. Graduates of the dual-degree programme will receive degrees from both universities.
“Since its establishment in 2003, Abu Dhabi University has sought to become one of the region’s premier universities by partnering with the best educational institutions across the world as well as constantly updating its offerings to students. Our partnership with SUCT will allow us to develop necessary programmes in the field of Science and Technology,” said James Mackin, ADU provost.
“Through this partnership, ADU will be able to take advantage of SUCT’s accomplishments in various scientific fields which can prove beneficial to students who wish to pursue careers in these fields,” he added.
ADU and SUCT will also work together to recruit qualified students who wish to enrol in specific programmes in both universities. An exchange of scholarly and educational information and materials is also part of the agreement.
“SUCT has established affiliations with more than 20 international universities and scientific research institutes worldwide and partnering with ADU will give us an opportunity to explore diverse opportunities in the field of Science and Technology in the Gulf region,” said Chengjia Wang, dean of Student Management Department at SUCT.
“ADU, as a leading university in the UAE, will enable our students to work in a completely different and broad environment and enhance their learning horizons,” Wang added.
ADU and SUCT will assess the feasibility of providing in-part or full online programmes in all applicable areas of study. A student opting for an online programme may also complete the entire degree online and receive an ADU degree.
Under the agreed requirements, ADU will assist in obtaining appropriate visas for SUCT students who wish to study at ADU. ADU will also offer English language proficiency through its English Language Institute for students unable to meet the language proficiency requirements. – TradeArabia News Service
